Grammy's New House

Grammy closes on her new townhouse tomorrow! We are excited, but no one is more excited then Ian. Grammy will be five minutes away - Mommy Simpson is also very excited to have her wonderful Mom so close. She has been such a HUGE support since Ian was born, and I couldn't do it without her.
We've had a hard year, but having our new little guy helps. My heart still aches missing my Dad. I wish he could be here, could hold Ian, teach him about birds and many other things. My Dad was my calm, my reason, my support and my friend. I miss him every day - I'm just thankful that he was my Dad.

The beginning...

We thought we were prepared for the hospital, but once we got there we realized we didn't have our digital camera. So John went to get us a disposable. As a result, the first pictures of our child aren't great, but we have some. It was all a blur to me at that point, so it's nice to see them now. It was a wonderful day, and a great experience for both of us. John and I were talking yesterday and we both decided we actually had fun during the delivery, so here are the pictures.

Ian Robert Blough Simpson

We have a new addition to our family. He has been here for a while, just not out of the womb. Dad is updating the blog because mom is resting. We had a good birth. We started the night at about midnight, Bethany had me time the contractions and they were still too far apart to make a move to the hospital. I went back to sleep until she woke me up about 2 am and I started timing again. At around 3 am the contractions were strong and coming even more regular. We called the doctor and she said to call her back when contractions were 5 minutes apart. So about an hour later we called her back and told her our good news and she told us to come in. We got ready at home and left and made it to the hospital about 4:45 am. By the time we were admitted to labor and delivery Bethany was 4 cm and we were able to get the epidural. When the epidural had its effect it was such a relief to Bethany and she was able to rest. At 8 am Bethany was 8 cm and then at 10:30 am she was fully dilated. The nurse, who is great, got the room ready and had Bethany push one time to see how she would do...that's when we saw Ian's little head. The nurse called the doctor and she was over in about 5 minutes and with about 3 contractions - 8 pushes - then Ian's head popped out. It was all over so fast. Ian was born at 11:06 am and weighs 6 pounds and is 19.5 inches long. Bethany is now eating some food she ordered and Ian is sleeping in Grandma Blough's arms. We have contacted many people and I hope that many more can find out through our blog. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. Little Ian Robert Blough Simpson has the right idea with sleeping, Bethany and I will do that soon. Bethany and Ian will be spending 2 nights here and then we will go home. We are so excited and can't wait to share more with you all.
